Shanna Gutierrez, hailed by critics as a "captivating and sensitive" flutist, recently performed the world premiere of Barbara White's "My barn having burned down I can now see the moon." Ms. Gutierrez performs extensively as soloist and chamber musician throughout the US and South America, and maintains a repertoire that encompasses the full canon of flute literature. Her concert schedule has included live radio broadcasts on WFMT, residencies in Colombia, South America, and performances at Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Sonic Impact: New Music Chicago, the Chicago Composers Forum, and regular recitals with Gerald Rizzer of the Chicago Ensemble. Ms. Gutierrez is an ardent champion of the music of our time and has performed contemporary works at home and abroad as a soloist, solo flutist of the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, and with ensemble dal niente and her duo partner Matt Gemmill. She has had the opportunity to work with world-renowned composers, but equally relishes working with young composers and premiering their works. She recently completed a tour of Colombia, South America where she presented several masterclasses and recitals featuring world premieres.
Ms. Gutierrez is also a dedicated pedagogue committed to bringing her students fresh and progressive instruction. She founded her own summer flute day camp series, and has been an active clinician both in the US and in South America.
