Background and Experience
As a trumpeter, Jake has performed with a variety of groups including the Chicago Sinfonietta, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreu, Frankie Valli, The O'Jays, and Brian McKnight. He received a Bachelor's of Music from the University of Michigan and credits his ability to years of incredible teachers including.
In addition to a career as a performer, Jacob enjoys a working with younger generations. He teaches private trumpet lessons for middle and high school students and teaches audio recording and theory at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago.
As a composer, sound artist, and creative improviser, Jake creates site-specific sound works to accompany installations, theater and movement works. His work evokes the raw emotional power of sound and music, using it to contextualize artistic ideas in other mediums. He is especially interested in the relationship between sound and space; In the influence that each has on the other. Through an ongoing collaboration with sculptor Jim Brenner, Jake also explores the possibilities of interactive sound in the public art environment.
