Background and Experience

David Becker, originally of Kansas City, Missouri, was from 2005 – 2008 the bass trombonist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since 2003, he has been the bass trombonist of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and in fall of 2007 became bass trombonist of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Becker has performed as both substitute and extra with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Alabama Symphony Orchestra. David was the William Randolph Hearst Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in both 2007 and 2008. He holds degrees from DePaul University and Northwestern University. David’s teachers have included Mark Fisher of the Lyric Opera, Michael Mulcahy and Charles Vernon of the Chicago Symphony, as well as Randy Hawes of the Detroit Symphony and Peter Ellefson at Northwestern. He has played under the batons of James Levine, Charles Dutoit, Sir Andrew Davis, Bernard Haitink, Myung Whun Chung, Robert Spano, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Kent Nagano, Mark Elder, Christof Eschenbach, Oliver Knussen, Sir Andre Previn, Leondard Slatkin, Renato Palumbo, Ludovic Morlot, Gilbert Varga, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Bruno Campanella, Stefan Asbury, Justin Brown, and Keith Lockhart among others. He has recorded with the Chicago Trombone Consort playing both bass and contrabass trombones on the 2010 self-titled release by Albany Records.
